Question: What should I do if I have herpes.?
I have the kind thats on your mouth and I got it from my mom so I have had it forever. Im only 14 and I really sucks because I didnt even do anything to deserve it. So anyways, I just started high school and boyfriends and stuff are starting to become something to think about, but I dont want to be giving herpes to guys I go out with that would just be gross and mean. There is soo much ignorance when it comes to herpes no wonder the stigma lives on.
80-90 percent of the population has it, even I have them. Half of them don't know that they have it or don't want to admit to the fact that cold sores are oral herpes.
You could have gotten them as innocently as from your mother or relative with cold sores giving you a kiss on the cheek when you were a baby (while they had an out break). This is how some people who have oral herpes get them in the first place.
DON'T kiss a guy when you have an out break. also try not to share things like cigarettes, chap stick, drinks, or utensils while you have a sore as well. Herpes is usually more contagious while there is an out break then when there isn't one but there is a VERY small chance of spreading it when there is no sore. So wait until the sore competely goes away before you kiss some one.
You can use creams like Abreva, Lipactin or Carmex to help heal the sore and they can even help prevent one from breaking out. You should also let any one that you think you want to be sexually active with know that you have oral herpes.

You won't spread it unless you have an active outbreak (cold sore), and unfortunately there is no cure. If you take a Lysine tablet once a day, that seems to keep them from coming back.
