I'm 13 years old, and my doctor said i have to get a blood test, and i'm getting it tomorrow probably. and i'm a little nervous about the pain,
it's just, i'm worried about what it feels like going through your skin into your vein, it just sounds so gross and painful. aha, sorry.
what'd it feel like for you.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It really doesn't hurt that bad. I'm 16 years old & diabetic, so I need to get blood work done frequently, about once every 3-4 months.
If you anticipate it hurting and make yourself nervous, you'll more than likely pass out. So, just relax, the pain is merely a stinging sensation that's over very quickly!
Try moving your arm after you get it done, or else your arm will probably cramp up and be stiff all day. I learned that the hard way haha!

You'll be fine sweetie =] Don't be nervous.Health Question & Answer

If they hit the vein, it does hurt, but not as much as if the vein moves, like mine used to, and the phlebotomist has to try again, or even a third or fourth time. She was an excellent phlebotomist, but my veins were tiny and they moved when I was in my teen-age years. I've been a type 1 diabetic for over 50 years, and I don't watch the needle go in when I inject myself, because it's kind of difficult to look at your own glutteus maximus without a mirror, and I don't turn around, even though I usually do have mirror. I usually look away when it's being done to some one else on TV. Thank goodness you don't' have to put insulin into a vein. I do hit blood vessels every now and then, but not on purpose.Health Question & Answer

No. It should be just a stick, and with one of your fingers. When they start to do it just look away and think about something else. The worse part of the thing is thinking about it too much. If they take
blood from your finger rub your hands together to get the blood to your finger tips. This way they won't have to stick your finger a second time if too little blood is obtained.

If they must take blood from your arm it should hurt less when they draw it because there are fewer nerves in the arm than in the fingers, however, it may be a little sore afterwards. They will probably put a cotton swab and band-aid on your arm and tell you to keep it bent for like 15 minutes. In this case do the same when they draw the blood. look away so you don't know when its coming. It has worked for me. Health Question & Answer

No; you'll get a single "pinch" at most (and maybe a tiny "burn" or sting from the alcohol used to cleanse the area), and that's all there is to it; it's over practically before it begins. A skillful phlebotomist can draw blood and you'll barely feel it, and even the klutziest med student can only do so much damage with a little tiny needle, so relax.

:-)Health Question & Answer

Let me help you with a pint of reference. Find an rose plant and prick your finger. Now that hurts for about 30 seconds. I am a little older and I have never had a blood test or gave blood that the needle hurt more than pricking my finger on a rose bush. As a matter of fact have our parents talk to you while the test is happening and may not notice the needle at all. Don't look at the needle and distract yourself with someone else. You will do fine.

I am 18 and have had my blood taken many times. It just feels like a pinch at first. When the blood starts to fill the vile the pain stops. It doesn't hurt when they take the needle out either. No big deal, not even as bad as a shot. You may be a bit tired later in the day but thats normal after blood is taken. Relax it will be just fine, the first time is always the worst.

Good luck :)Health Question & Answer

it depends on the phlebotomist and your veins, whether or not you got superficial ones or not. Sometimes it could be painful, sometimes you don't feel a thing.Health Question & Answer
