Question: Can you add liquid Lysol (brown bottle) to a humidifier.?
Someone told my sister to do this and it will cut down on children's cold during the winter time.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Wash the Humidifier out with vinegar to clean the humidifier. You should only use distilled water in it and never any chemicals.Health Question & Answer

That's an interesting idea but I don't think it will be good for the humidifier or the child. Lysol is called Lysol because it causes cell wall lysis and this can be true for human cells sometimes (which means cells burst and die....so, you don't want that in a child's lung). Besides, you have to let kids get colds and get a little sick so they can keep building on their immune systems. There's no need to curb that unless the child has some sort of immune dysfunction or insufficiency. With viral infections like colds, sometimes the antibodies that are created after the cold can be applied to other rhinovirus strains and will provide more protection that just keeping colds away all together.

Besides, making cleaning chemicals diffuse into the air just means they get into the bloodstream faster so it's just a bad idea overall. Strange that someone would come up with that.Health Question & Answer

Yes...breathing in cleaning chemicals is always a good idea.Health Question & Answer
