Question: What is a cold sore....? does it mean i have herpes or the HSV-1.?
so looking up cold sores online, came across the article that says a cold sore is basically Herpes, strain 1 (HSV-1). so does that mean that i have Herpes.?
or can a person have a cold sore that's a result of like a canker sore gone bad.? or just a cold sore.?
i'm very confused. does it mean i have to get tested.? i've never had any promiscuous relations, neither has my spouse.

Actually, cold sores can be caused by HSV1 or HSV2 depending on which strain was transmitted. Canker sores are not caused by Herpes.

About 80% of adults have oral Herpes. Therefore, it is pointless to get tested. However, keep in mind that you CAN transmit oral Herpes to the genitals through oral sex. So, use Abreva to heal cold sores quickly and refrain from kissing or other more involved activities until after it has healed. You also don't want to touch your cold sore then touch your eye because eyes are more susceptible to becoming infected by the virus.

No, cold sores are a sign for the herpes virus. If you get cold sores, you have the herpes simplex virus 1. They're pretty annoying, and embarrassing. I have HSV-1, and so do at least 50% of adults. They're not really as bad as everybody puts them out to be. They're manageable. If you ever do break out though, eat tons of licorice.
