What would happen if I am admitted to the hospital (kinda nervous)?!

Question: What would happen if I am admitted to the hospital (kinda nervous).?
I have asthma and have been sick with what the doctor said was a virus. I have been severely congested with this cough(could be walking pneumonia or bronchitis). Any how, my doctor is concerned because Iately I have been having trouble breathing and since it's been a month since this all started. I have to go to back to the doctor but I am afraid to because I don' t want her to send me to the hospital...To ease my mind, if I am sent what generally happens.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
What generally happens when you are admitted to the hospital:
You are taken to a room, a nurse will ask you a million questions to get you admitted, such as your current meds and medical history.
You will most likely have an IV started and be given fluids. You will be treated with whatever medications your doctor orders for you and most likely given respiratory treatments to help ease your breathing and break up any congestion. You may also wear oxygen, if your doctor orders.
That is all just general for a patient with respiratory illness. It will all depend on what your doctor orders for you.
Don't be nervous. Us nurses really harmless, just want to help you get better.
Hope you're feeling well soon.
PS......No such thing as "walking pneumonia, its just pneumonia.Health Question & Answer

It does seem scary, but you soon get used to it. Lots of strange people roaming in and out, and checking on you and taking blood and vitals, but you soon accept it. If the doctor says you need to be hospitalized, don't refuse-- he professionally has determined you need advanced care that cannot be provided at home, and the hospital is best qualified to provide the essential medical treatment you need-- for example, a respiratory therapist will visit you and make sure your breathing is ok, and the various lab tests and x rays are done to see what your condition is and how it is progressing. The biggest concerns usually deal with modesty and being afraid of being seen nude or partially nude. But remember they see that all the time, and everyone looks the same anyway. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I've never been technically ADMITTED, but I know that in the ER, they take you in, and ask you about your medical history and so on. Then they put you in a room, make you dress in a gown (I have no idea why, but it's protocol), then put an IV in you, I guess so they can check for things and give you medicine quickly if you need it. In the ER, it usually takes hours because they're so busy, but I'm not quite sure how it is in the main part of the hospital.

But... if this has been going on for a month, it's more chronic than it is acute. They probably won't admit you, but send you in for a CAT scan or something (CAT scans are easy, btw) and check your lungs, etc.Health Question & Answer

Doctors typically don't hospitalize for walking pneumonia or bronchitis. You may need a nebulizer to help you breathe more deeply until the illness is gone - along with your regular inhalers, of course.

Try not to worry. Avoid your asthmatic triggers as much as possible. Best wishes!Health Question & Answer
