I learned a natural cure from our pediatrician when my boys were young. It sounds odd, but it always worked.
We took a bag of chamomile tea and wrapped it in a thin piece of cotton. Then we'd heat up the tea kettle, and hold the tea bag against the outside. When it was really warm (but not hot enough to burn) we'd hold it against the infected eye. It always drew the infection out. Eye chemistry is very sensitive and I knew people that had vision problems from the pink eye medicine - didn't want to take that chance with my sons.Health Question & Answer

If it was crusted, then you most likely have pink eye.
