It probably is strep. You can have it without any other symptoms, so even if its not bothering you it could still be strep. I once had a white spot I thought was thrush, turned out to be strep (dr tested it) and I was very surprised as I felt fine!

However, it could also be a sign of mono. I once had white spots on my throat, and the doctor didn't test me and said "strep" and put me on antibiotics. I got so sick I ended up in the hospital. Turns out it was mono, not strep, and the antibiotics were just killing off all the good bacteria in my body, making me sicker. A few years later, my sister went in with the same symptoms and they said "strep" and weren't going to test her. She insisted and guess what...she was negative for strep, positive for mono. SO INSIST YOUR DOCTOR TEST YOU!!!Health Question & Answer

The "white stuff" is pus, which causes the bad smell, and this is a sign of an infection. You need to get antibiotics to clear this up. Make sure you FINISH them, even if it seems to disappear. I had this problem three years ago and for four months, it kept coming back before I finally had my tonsils removed.Health Question & Answer

You DO have strep throat, and if not treated it will spread to your other tonsil and even your sinus cavity. The white stuff is actually "puss" produced by your body to fight the infection. You need antibiotics from your doctor for sure.Health Question & Answer
