Going low like that is a precursor to type 2 diabetes. Have you noticed that you go down to 60 after you eat certain types of foods.? That's the way I was.

I had GD when I was pregnant too. If you had GD once you will most likely have it again. But it won't show up this early in your pregnancy. What happens is around 24 to 28 weeks your baby's placenta begins to release a hormone that makes the insulin your body produces less effective. It does this because your baby needs more sugar ... in a healthy person this slows down the absorption of sugar in your bloodstream, which means the baby gets more. And the pancreas works harder to break down those sugars. In a person who is predisposed to diabetes (like you and I) the pancreas can't keep up with the increased demand.

So, keep checking your sugar. It will go up. And the earlier you catch it, the better it is for the health of your baby.

As far as the low blood sugar ... I don't think that's low enough to hurt your baby. But you should ask your doctor to make sure. To keep from getting lows you should try not to eat meals high in carbs, and eat little meals every two or three hours instead of 3 larger meals to keep your blood sugar at a more even level.Health Question & Answer

Hi,

With your history of gestational diabetes, you should bring this up with your doctor at all of your appointments.

60 seems a little low to me, if you start to feel like you are getting dizzy, check the level and if below 70, you should be drinking something sweet to bring it up a little.

For the next couple of days, check your blood sugar level when you wake up. A friend of mine says it needs to be close to 100 +/- about 15 -20.

I have been reading a couple of great books, the one by Dr. Barnard talks about how we get diabetes, and says that diet can reduce medications.

Dr. Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes.

Best of luck to you and your family,

This is a low reading after eating. Two hours after eating, your blood sugar should not exceed 120 or be below 80. So you are at he low end of normal. It sounds like your blood sugar may swing a bit too much. Drink chamomile tea daily to better regulate your blood sugar levels.Health Question & Answer

If you want to control your diabetes then you need to start eliminating hard fats from your diet. And 60 after a meal means your body is dealing with the food just fine. If your insulin were not working then the blood sugar would go up after a meal and not down.Health Question & Answer

You could be gettting hyperinsulinemia... a precursor to diabetes.

I don't think that's low enough to harm the baby, but if you're concerned, check with a good pediatrician who knows about endocrinology.Health Question & Answer
