LOL, I got my tongue pierced at your age and my parents freaked out too ;o).. But if they didn't freak out--I guess they wouldn't be parents.. All in all, it sounds as if you're doing a great job caring for your piercing.. But just remember that the hole through your tongue is still a wound.. If you don't properly take care of it, it can get infected.. Make sure you swab the bottom and of it with a Listerine-saturated q-tip to remove the gunk on the post.. And try to gargle as much as possible after you eat.. The plastic barbell you're using sounds great.. When I got mine, all they had was metal.. Many people think that the barbell can mess up your teeth, but that's hogwash.. In the ten years I had mine, it never once scratched or cracked my teeth.. Unless you plan on putting a tennis-ball sized barbell into your mouth, you'll do fine..

Good luck with your piercing! In time, your mom will calm down and grow used to it.. I probably would've still kept mine but it became kind of an issue while trying to kiss my fiance ;o)Health Question & Answer

Tooth damage and tongue piercing are linked because the constant hitting of the balls (metal or plastic) against the teeth causes tooth root loss over the years.. Tooth root loss = tooth loss..

Many parents freak out when their children get piercings and tattoos.. In our minds, you're still our babies and we want to take care of you.. We're also older folks who grew up in a time when there was no such thing as body piercing and we don't understand why girls would want to mutilate their bodies..

Having said all that, I have 9 piercings, including a navel piercing.. I would have more, but my job is conservative enough that they don't want body piercings to show..

There is nothing you can do.. If you're going to keep the tongue piercing, resist playing with it, as this can hasten tooth root loss.. Be sure to see your dentist regularly so any oral problems associated with your piercing can be caught early..Health Question & Answer

even if you use the plastic ball instead of the metal one you can still cause tooth damage.. more importantly you can cause your bone to recede in that area, the tongue ring rests on the inside of your mouth below your bottom teeth, the constant presence of the ring there will irritate the bone and its response it to pull away, it will not hurt and you will have no signs or symptoms, you will be loosing bone and not even realize it, you can also have gum recession with a tongue ring,Health Question & Answer

no honey you about got it covered.. it would really take a lot even if it was metal to damage your teeth.. mom is just trippen thats all.. my parents didnt talk to me for 2 weeks when i got my tongue done and a tatoo at the same time.. dont worry, just keep takin care of it just like you are doing and in time mom will get over it..my mom would even say " you sound like a retard when you talk".. i mean she was totally buggin out so try not to play with your tongue around her she will be fine.. after a month my parents forgot all about it.. yours will too..Health Question & Answer

Take the ring out, toss it away..
Let your tongue heal finally..
