Well the office that we refer our patients to suggests that patient's chew Spry Gum.. It IS a gum that is proven to reduce cavities by reducing plaque acids on the teeth..

So YES there is a special gum out there but it is not specifically just for ortho patients.. I chew it all the time!

They tell you not to chew gum first because it can get stuck, and second of all it can pull at the brackets.. Yes, they seem very stuck on there, but they can and will come off if pulled hard enough, perhaps by you trying to remove said stuck gum.. also, if you cannot go without gum, I would agree with those who said sugarless because the sugar coated gum will stick in your mouth maybe in areas you cant reach with your toothbrush, and you can have more tooth problems than you want.. So just be wise about it, I've managed to go without for a year and a half..Health Question & Answer

i dont think so.. when i had braces, i ate any kind of gum and nothing happened so you should be fine.. when i got my retainer and i ate gum, it would always stick to the roof of my mouth and it would be hard to take off the retainer..
