I have a discusting taste in my mouth after getting my wisdom teeth removed. What is it & how can I prevent it?!

Question: I have a discusting taste in my mouth after getting my wisdom teeth removed..What is it & how can I prevent it.?
I got my wisdom teeth out about a week ago.. I am still a little sore and swollen in my right cheek, but I can tell that I am progressing.. However, ever since I got my wisdom teeth removed, there has been this very unique disgusting taste in my mouth that is hard to describe (but I know that it does not taste like iron/metal).. I can tell that the bad taste is coming from the areas which I got my wisdom teeth removed.. I have recently bought antiseptic mouthwash for myself which I have used twice today, it only makes the taste go away for about 5 minutes, but I can definitely tell that it is helping my healing process.. My uncle told me to rinse my mouth out with salt water which I've only done once today, it helps but it doesn't completely get rid of the taste.. Does this bad taste in my mouth mean it's infected.? Or is it just part of the healing process.? And is there anything else I can do for myself to help get rid of the taste in my mouth besides using salt water and mint flavored mouthwash.?Health Question & Answer

Ah, Krashark, I remember that taste.. Ugh! It's just the taste coming from the healing orifices where your wisdom teeth used to be.. It's a natural part of the process, but I promise that the taste will go away eventually.. Definitely keep up with the salt water rinses and the antiseptic mouthwashes.. Something that I remember helping immensely for me, too, was FLOSSING.. Floss well in the backs of those molars next to where your wisdom teeth used to be.. You'd be surprised at the amount of plaque that can build there, and bacteria from your healing mouth can gather there and hold that bad taste.. Hope this advice helps!Health Question & Answer

The bad taste can be due to infection at the extraction site.. It will take another week to go.. Till then you can do salt water rinses and anticeptic mouth wash but increase the frequency of these.. Use salt water rinses after every meal, it will not only help in healing but will also take care of bad taste.. It's the taste of pus.. You're healing.. Salt water is the best thing you can do, but there are also some special oral rinses you can buy.. My dentist recommended a powder you mix into water when I got my wisdom teeth out.. Health Question & Answer

There is no need to worry.. There is no infection.. The mouth opening is restricted so it may be difficult for you to clean.. you can continue the salt water rinsing and wait for the wound to heal..Health Question & Answer
