at first, they hurt a bit and feel very weird. your mouth is puffy, and eating can be painful. after a day or two, and some Tylenol, you get used to them. when they change the wire or tighten it, they will be soar again, but never as bad as when you get them on [and that really isn't a very bad pain most the time.] if they really, really hurt, that is probably a bad thing. the wire might be poking you, or something may be broken. go back to the orthodontist if this happens, but that is not likely. dont eat the things they tell you not to eat, or at least try your best! KEEP YOUR BRACES CLEAN! if you don't brush your teeth TWICE+ a day, they will not stay clean and this can make your treatment last a lot longer. i do not floss everyday because it is a pain, but you should! i always brush twice though, and my orthodontist is happy my teeth stay clean. good luck when you get them on, and hope i helped!Health Question & Answer

For the first few days it hurts the teeth, like a throbbing toothache pain, and it's painful to bite into stuff (so stock up on soups and yogurts etc!). This happens also for about a day every time you get them tightened. At first it mainly feels wierd because there's extra stuff in your mouth, and it feels difficult to close your lips.

Some people it can rub the inside of your mouth and hurt, but they can give you wax strips to put on the braces that work wonders! I've had mine for 1 yr and they're still doing that to me, but I think that's quite unusual because I've got loads of little extra bits on mine. (from previous headbrace etc - ick!). There's no need to be nervous, it feels wierd rather than painful.Health Question & Answer

Oh, this should be fun.
When you get your braces I suggest taking one to two ibuprofen. Relax, getting braces put on does not hurt! In the next few days, approximately 3-4, they will hurt quite a bit. To reduce the pain I suggest putting orajel or dental wax on your gums. What this does is make your mouth feel quite numb. also, eat very soft, and non-chewy foods. This also happens when you go and get your braces tightened. I recommend you do the same thing as well. Say, "Goodbye!" to gum. I suggest applesauce, pudding, soup, perhaps a well cut up sandwich. (I recommend this to everyone. ) But you know what they say, "No pain, no gain." This is what comes when you want a beautiful set of pearly ones!

Good luck and I wish you all the best with your new set of teeth.Health Question & Answer

They do hurt, but getting them on is more painful than actually wearing them. About an hour before your appointment, take some Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve. also, cover your lips in plenty of Vaseline ahead of time, because your lips will get very chapped from having the dentists touch your mouth with metal instruments and their latex covered fingers. For a few days afterwards, stick to soft foods and liquids, such as pastas and soups. Health Question & Answer

When I first got them on, the process does not hurt at all. I didn't even know they were putting the braces on because I had my eyes closed because of the light, and I couldn't feel them being put on at all. So I was like, "When are you gonna put my braces on.?" And the orthodontist was like," I'm actually almost done!" When they are being put on, your mouth is like wide open, it feels like your mouth is stretched open but it doesn't hurt. After they are put on, your cheeks start to hurt. Not your teeth, they don't move to much. But the brackets poke into your cheeks and you get canker sores so I suggest you put alot of those waxes on after you get the braces. (you'll no what they are after you get your braces on) and put some orajel on the inside of your cheeks. Then you get used to it. It takes about 2 months for your teeth to get straight. Hope this helped!Health Question & Answer

I currently have braces, and they ache a LITTLE bit when you first have them out on, because its a new sensation for the mouth, and when you bite together it feels a bit weird, but after a few days of having them, you get used to them, and just forget they're there.
I do recommend that you clean them every time you eat, as if food gets behind the brackets, and you cant get to it, the tooth will rot, or just rinse your mouth out with clean water.
your teeth may be a bit sensitive to hot and cold products, just so you are aware x

hope helped, cassie xHealth Question & Answer

Generally, with braces it's an achey feeling rather than any real pain.
Getting them on: Boring but pain free
The first week: Achey to eat anything, go for ice cream.
Getting them tightened: Pain free
The week after tightening: Again, achey to eat but not as bad as when they first went on
Getting them off: Boring. Worrying (lots of clicky noises) but fine
Afterwards: Teeth feel fragile
Retainers: Annoying, but well worth it.

Btw, kissing with braces is also fine if you were wondering. With retainers it's a little awkward, but doable and you only wear them at night.

Hope that helps :)Health Question & Answer

I got braces in June and i they don't hurt! At first your teeth ache a bit when they are put on, well a few hours after but just take some pain killers. They might rub your gums a bit but you get given some wax to put on them with really helps and also use bonjela. When you go back for them checking and wires changing it might ache a bit after or feel tight but its normal. It's not really painful it's just achey. Hope i helped and good luck! Your teeth will be beautiful ! : )Health Question & Answer

They dont hurt when they're putting them on you...but the next day it REALLY REALLY HURTS..

and you cant eat for like a week cos it hurts so much, and you cant bite down or hardly close your mouth...

I just got braces two weeks ago...

the pain fades after awhile and you get used to it...

but in the beginning it hurts A LOT...Health Question & Answer

Well, it depends on your teeth to how much it hurts. As some people get braces on average teeth and others on really bad teeth, so that just depends. But for the first few days it hurts but then your teeth should get used to it and the pain should move away, :)
