OKAY I HAVE HAD BRACES BOTTOM AND TOP FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS...I HAVEN'T HAD GUM...BUT I HAVE HAD OTHER STICKY STUFF LIKE A TOOTSIE ROLL AND NOTHING HAPPENED...ARE THE DENTISTS JUST SAYING THAT TO MAKE YOU FEEL HORRIBLE.?Health Question & Answer

Dentists don't say things just to make you feel horrible (well not good dentists anyway!). The reason you're warned not to eat sticky foods and chewing gum is because they can break your braces, for example by dislodging a wire or bracket, or snapping parts off.
This can be dangerous for you - you could end up with sharp wires touching your gums, cheeks or tongue; or could accidentally swallow or inhale some metalwork. In any case, it will make your treatment time longer, and you may be charged for repairs.
So at the end of the day it's a bit of a risk to take - it's better to just avoid the things they warned you about, and have a big binge after you get your braces off! :)Health Question & Answer

I, too have braces, and I admit, they SUCK. I have them top and bottom aswell.
The doctors are not just saying it to make you feel bad, but for your own good.
It does get stuck in your braces. Because it's sticky and chewey.
Tootsie rolls are sticky, but not as chewy and are not made from the substances that gum is made form, which makes it stick and chewy.
So, it does get stuck.
But if you want some gum (which you are still alllowed on occasions)
then be sure to brush your teeth within an hour after, just to make sure. And brush them extra good before bed. :)

I have braces and I chew gum ALL the time, don't worry. :P If it gets stuck just pull it out of your braces, it's like the same thing as if would've been stuck to your teeth.

This might sound weird but sometimes I like the taste of gum so I just leave it on my tongue and kinda rub it on the roof of my mouth so I can get that gum taste in my mouth. Technically I am not chewing it so I am ok. LOLHealth Question & Answer
the only time it will get stuck in your braces, is if you chew gum like a spaz.
