They take impressions.
Then the same day you go back and they give you the retainer.
You wear it full time for a couple of days (not when eating).
Then just at night.
Then gradually (over months or maybe years) you reduce it until it's once a week or maybe even less depending on how they work for you.Health Question & Answer

most orthodontists now dont give you a retainer.
they glue on a wire at the back of your teeth to act as a retainer. it's more effective and you dont ever have to worry about your tetth moving. and you have it for the rest of your life. not that you can really feel or see it or anything.Health Question & Answer

You should wear the retainers for day and night time for the 1st year in order to fix the position of teeth. But can take it off when you eat. You can probably wear it at night time in the 2nd year.Health Question & Answer
