Could be a number of things, ranging from gum disease, which is easily treated, or just that you are using the wrong kind of toothbrush. Maybe buy one with softer bristles, and get yoursome some chlorexadine mouth wash at the same time, just in case. Either way its not a bad idea to use mouthwash as it will be better for you gums and teeth.
If it gets no better after a couple of days have a word with your dentist.
Good luck. Health Question & Answer

I had this problem a couple of years ago. I was told it was due to gum disease. I was told to do 3 things:

* Brush the gums vigorously. In the short term this increased the bleeding, but once the gums got better, it kept them free from infection.It was suggested that an electric toothbrush might help
* I had some sessions with a hygienist who cleaned my teeth far more effectively than I could.
* Use a mouthwash regularly.

But you should check with your dentist in case the problem you have might not be exactly the same as the one I had.Health Question & Answer

It could be a sign of gum disease and is a very common problem for smokers.
I don't smoke and sometimes I get this too but not as severe as yours by the sounds of it.
Keep brushing even when it bleeds, it's what your gums need.

If you think it's getting worse or that you're getting Gingivitis (a gum disease that causes inflammation of the gums), then see your dentist because it needs treating.Health Question & Answer

Flossing will help reduce the bleeding and do a warm salt water rinse.. Going to the dentist every 6 months will help too.Depending on the last time you were at the dentist, you may want to give them a call so they can check out your gums to make sure you dont have something called periodontal disease. Have the dentist look to see whats going on..Health Question & Answer

you need to floss. I had the same problem. There is plaque beneath and on the aide of your teeth and when it builds up it causes irritation. I started flossing daily especially the back ones and I barely bleed anymore. Flossing is a miracle workerHealth Question & Answer

Keep brushing and the bleeding should stop. If it doesn't, go and see your dentist. You probably have gingivitus (gum disease) which is more and more common these days.Health Question & Answer
