Is it to late to make them look good?!

Question: Is it to late to make them look good.?
Well, I started off not really taking care of my teeth, I did brush them once in awhile, and when I went to the dentist, I almost always had cavities.

I have now started to really care about my teeth, brushing 3 times a day, flossing, mouthwash, the whole bit. I went to the dentist, and I had....5 cavities. I'm only 13 right now, and my teeth don't look bad at all.

My whole family pretty much doesn't have very good teeth, im getting white fillings, is it to late to make my teeth look, perfect white, etc etc.?

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT SAY "BRUSH YOUR TEETH YOUR SO DISGUSTING" I do get taken to the dentist every year, so don't say I don't.

Please keep the comments nice.Health Question & Answer

If you are really concerned, talk to your dentist! When people say "Brush your teeth all the time", don't listen. Overbrushing deterioates your enamel (protective layer over your teeth, you need this to prevent cavities!) and your gums receede. Have a checkup every six months with your dentist, and get your teeth professionally cleaned or whitened then. Whitening products used from the store actually strip away your enamel (ever notice how your teeth are sensitive afterwards.?). Use a whitening toothpaste, or one with baking soda in it, but use it only once a day at most: the ones with baking soda have a mild abrasive (the baking soda) in them, and frequent use (more than twice a day) will wear away enamel. I use a whitening toothpaste almost everyday, but I prefer using crest regular paste. The right toothbrush will help too! Here are a few things that keep my teeth looking GREAT (people always compliment me on my smile...and I still have braces on!)

-Oral B arctica advantage toothbrush: any toothbrush given to you by your dentist should be good, and look for ones similair to it in the stores. Replace it once every three months, or when the bristles look worn out. Brush twice a day, for two minutes each time. 2 for 2!
- Floss: This is really important! FLOSS FLOSS FLOSS! Floss once a day.
- Sulca brush: Basically it's like a bunch of sturdy bristles from your tooth brush: It's great for cleaning around the gumline, and those hard to reach places, like the chewing surface of your molars.
- Toothpaste: I have two tubes: one is regular (I use it in the morning) and the other whitening (I use it at night, or every other night)
- Mouthwash: It keeps my breath smelling great! For an extra boost, brush your teeth with it once in a while.

I have no cavities, and my teeth look great. It's not too late to have great looking teeth. You may just have weak or soft enamel that runs in the family! If you are prone to cavitites, get your teeth sealed (they usually only do this on the "chewing" surface of your molars. Basically it's a thin plastic coating that gets applied like glue to your teeth).

When you are older, and if your teeth are really bad, consider veneers. They look so real nowadays, and with the right dentist, they can look amazing! A lady I know has veneers on her two front teeth because of an accident, and you wouldn't know unless she told you! Just wait until you are older, when your jaw and "bone structure" is done growing. When you are young, veneers done on your entire mouth (like Miley) can look really weird. I'd definitely wait until you are older. As for now, just keep brushing and flossing. You'll have happy, healthy teeth! And definitely go for those white fillings, they look so much better than the silver fillings! Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

It is never too late. If you take good care of your teeth, you can still haver perfect white teeth. Tooth colored fillings (composite) match with the tooth and they donot show. For more information on fillings, you can read the follwoing very informative article

Oh please don't even consider veneers! They look like crunk teeth like Miley Cyrus, I'm not even joking. You can always have whitening done, the only reason anyone should have veneers is if there's deterioration in the front of the teeth. You can turn them around w/o much trouble.Health Question & Answer

Hi Joshua.I' m sure your teeth are going to end up looking really great! At least you're doing something about them now, rather than leaving it till later.
I can remember once,at the beginning of a school term,my mother asked if I needed anything for the new term at my boarding school.
I told her I needed a new toothbrush,She asked me what had happened to my old one and I said I'd lost it.We worked it out that I hadn't brushed my teeth for most of the previous term plus all the recently finished holidays, probably about 3 months!Health Question & Answer

Just keep brushing and flossing and your teeth will be maintained. Have daily checkup twice a year. And ask about a sealant on top of your teeth to prevent cavities. Whitening your teeth is ok once in a while but not all the time..Health Question & Answer

That's the beauty of things, you can change anything. It's expensive 500-2000 but its very possible. Veneers, look it up. Health Question & Answer
