Hi! in open bite(under bite) Sometimes we use a jump biting appliance(retainer-like appliances which raises the bite), then elastic bands to "raise the bite" in teeth with brackets(braces). Sometimes, In hard cases we do surgery, but not all the time, especially if the patient is still growing(male:up to 18 years old, female:15years old)
Raising the bite means that, the lower or upper teeth have to be extruded(pulled upward)including the attachments(bone, gums and all)
YOu have to be aware of the proper hygiene and some paind during the treatment, but its only minor, so don't mind the (possible)discomfort.Health Question & Answer

um i had an overbite so they tried using rubber bands and that did not work too well at first so they were going to use these things that were like permanent rubber bands only it was metal and looked like a spring I think it was called a forcer they only keep it on for like one or two visits I ended up not having to get it but I am guessing that you could use it for an underbite tooHealth Question & Answer
