Start with an excellent GPA during high school, making sure to take any advanced classes in the Maths and Sciences areas that you possibly can; Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Cal, Geo and Trig. Any college credits that you can acquire will also help you along and look good on your application. It would be a good idea for you to discuss your intentions with a guidance counselor soon so that they can help to guide you in your pursuit with scheduling the classes you will need to take without getting your self into too heavy of a course load. You will want all of your grades and credits to be appealing to the college you choose to apply and also to the dentistry department. There are a good number of students interested in this career so it makes it difficult to get accepted if your GPA and course load isn't up to par. Doing extra work in your community also helps. You may want to try asking your dentist if you can come in to observe, file or do some other work that will help to familiarize you with dentistry and how an office works. Your dentist will be an asset to you when it comes time to apply to college, he will be more than happy to assist you with letters of recommendation. Good luck with school! Don't become discouraged, I know it seems like a lot but keep in mind, it will be worth it in the end.Health Question & Answer

Go to college and get a degree in some health related field or biology. Take the DAT (dental admissions test) and apply to the schools of your choice. Having extra curricular activities will help make you a more desirable candidate. If you know for sure you want to become a dentist the quickest way to get there would be to get into the University of Pacific in California and take their dental program which will give you a bachelors degree in biology (2 years) then get into their dental school in San Francisco (3 years). All other dental schools are 4 year programs and require an undergraduate degree plus certain prerequisite courses if your degree is something not related to science or health such as liberal arts. At least 8 years of school after high school. (4 years college, 4 years dental school.)
