I assume that the area will be made numb with something like novocaine. When that wears off you can expect the area to be somewhat sore and there might be some swelling of your upper lip for awhile. These post-procedure reactions are 100% normal. The dentist should give you very clear instructions about what to do, what not to do, eating, and related things, during your recovery. Make sure the instructions are clear. It would be best if they were in printed form. Follow them very carefully in order to speed the healing process.
