Depends on what you eat as a vegan. Try to have a balanced diet. I recently turned vegan and actually GAINED a load of weight from it. I think it was because my diet was unbalanced for the first week and I just ate a lot of carbs and snacked a lot to compensate for what must have been a lack of nutrition. I later planned out my diet properly to ensure I got the right nutrients and the weight has come off. Just plan it properly. Calories are calories, no matter where you get them from!Health Question & Answer

It's a major misconception that vegetarians and vegans are lacking nutrients and are anemic. If you eat the right kinds of foods, you aren't missing out on anything except fat, sodium and cholesterol.

Example:

A vegan LightLife SmartDog hotdog contains 45 calories, 0 grams fat, 9 grams of protein, 0 grams of cholesterol, 1 gram of fiber, 250 mg potassium, 320 mg of sodium.

An Oscar Meyer wiener contains 147 calories, 14 grams of fat, 5 grams of protein, NO fiber, NO potassium, 461 grams of sodium and 25 mg of cholesterol.

I haven't eaten meat in over 16 years and I am not anemic and my cholesterol/tricerides are tip top and I have the bloodwork to prove it. I'm also at a healthy weight.

Just because I chose to eat differently doesn't make me any worse off nutritionally.

But if you want to lose weight, you just need to burn more than you consume.

And it depends on how tall you are. You may not need to lose any weight at all.

Health Question & Answer

um... that's dangerous, hun. I'm sorry but it just is. save yourself and don't do that. you can get vitamin deficiencies and anemia, and you shouldn't expect any weight to come off at all because you're not exercising and not building any muscle. you need to eat meat.

studies have shown (i read this in a medical journal) that vegans lose brain cells because they're not provided with a true source of vitamins and minerals. even though they take supplements, it's still not the same. it's like buying look-alike ugg boots, but they're not the real thing. it works the same way with vitamins.

if your heart is set on vegan, then please, please please please please at least eat breakfast.

and it's not like cows are going to go extinct or anything anytime soon. they're COWS. they breed way too much.Health Question & Answer

you can expect

zero lbs

to come off.

Deciding to be vegan will not make you lose weight. Neither will deciding to be vegetarian.

If you want to lose weight EAT HEALTHY. becoming vegan will severely limit your choice of foods when trying to get a full and nutritious meal. Yes, it is possible, and you can eat very healthily as a vegan.
BUT it is a struggle, as things get repetitive as well as hard to find and expensive. you will be much better off "being allowed" to eat anything, allowing yourself to be available to a healthy meal. And a good amount of exercise.

note: if you are being a vegan for MANY OTHER reasons, then ok, good luck. I am just saying if it's for health and weight loss, it's not the best idea (lol contrary to what vegetarian mags may tell you).

PS. I would like to say that the Lula f's is totally incorrect. I am baffled by how many people believe that eating less and working out more is how to lose weight. NO. FAIL. Yes, obviously, if you do not eat, nothing will go into your body, and you will lose mass, as well as health...

THE IDEA is to eat HEALTHILY, meaning full set of meals with a good amount of healthy foods consisting of the required categories of food. AND exercise (more cardio based than pumping). It's so damn simple. people. the idea is to BUILD UP YOUR METABOLISM. This allows your body to learn how to burn fat, thus making you healthy and lose weight.

ANY PLACE you see "EASY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT" should be an instant sign to turn the other way. There is no healthy, INSTANT way to lose weight. there is only the slow, fast, and faster way to do it. And that just depends on how you decided to eat and exercise.

The pattern for losing weight is not difficult - consume less food and workout more - the difficulties surface when we really try to put that into operation! There are loads of temptations in the real world don't you think.?! OMG! All my vegan/vegetarian friends are so fat some are even borderline obese! Why.? Because all they eat is carbs! Carbs make you fat and tofu/soybeans mess with your hormones. Google "dangers + soy" and you'll see.

I became lean and trim when I started eating meat after being vegetarian for years. Do not do it!!!

Google "Life without bread" and click on the amazon link and read the 6 pages it gives you to read for free: you will see that you can eat as much fat and protein (cheese, meat) and NOT gain weight. But do the same with grains, tofu etc and turn into a huge fatso! Its' true!

My moms friend went from vegetarian to vegan. She got so sick her doctor ordered her to be at least vegetarian again. It is way too unhealthy. You even realize it. Depends upon if you eat a lot of junk food or not. It still depends a lot upon calories and exercise. If you eat potatoe chips and tofutti, etc, then don't expect to lose weight.Health Question & Answer
