Question: Do you feel that the current obesity problem has led some people to idolise very skinny body types.? Read on.?
I do. I feel that people have the attitude that it's better to look positively malnourished than be fat. This is something quite concerning as it should be neither a goal to be overweight nor underweight. People should strive to be healthy, but there are now two polar extremes and they are getting further and further apart.

What is your take on the matter.Health Question & Answer

yes, lots of teenagers (i know i am one) are now so terrified of getting obese they (because of the media and shos such as biggest loser etc.) that they go the other way and idolise the look and diets of v thin celebsHealth Question & Answer

Actually, I think it is more to do with the media rather than the obesity problem.

Look back 30 or so years, most people were healthy, children + adults did sports together, had limited use of a TV, cars were expensive, meaning people were forced to eat healthily + walk places.
Now-a-days people have cars, rarely do sports unless they're interested in them, there are take-aways every few streets and a lot more cheap junk food available.

I agree with you though that everyone should strive to be healthy. Not necessarily exactly 8 stones 8lbs or whatever, but healthy for their own body height + shape. For example, 9 stones is healthy for me, but for smaller women it can be classed as overweight.

Another thing is with the BMI actually being unreliable (and quite misleading), a rugby player will be classed as 'overweight', rather than 'healthy' because he/she works out a lot and has muscle weight, which is heavier than the weight of fat.

I think both obesity and extremely underweight will both get a lot worse.
Obesity because people feel comfort in food + genuinely enjoy eating it, eating at take aways/restaurants, etc.
And being underweight due to the media attention on "skinny, size 0 celebs" who appear to be quite glamorous wearing their designer dresses. Health Question & Answer

The world today is obsessed with 'skinny'. 'The thinner the better!' You can't come in if you don't have ribs showing! etc etc and it's appauling.

I totally agree with you. It's two extremes, with very few people in the inbetween catagory. I have to say, I find it more irritating than anything else to see young women desperate to be thin. It's almost amusing, and I know thats a dreadful thing to say, but it's almost being made into a joke now.

I'm a nurse, and of course everyone should be health. The simple fact is that some people are most healthy when they're a few pounds overweight, and some are healthy being underweight and active. Its when people try to be what they werent designed to be that problems arise x Health Question & Answer

i think its all stupid...
you're right, people should strive to be healthy. who knows what society has come to...Health Question & Answer
