I feel horrible about the way i look, i am going to start walking to lose weight?!

Question: I feel horrible about the way i look, i am going to start walking to lose weight.?
ok so i am 5'9 i weigh 183, i have not really been taking care of myself, i eat later at night sometimes, but anyways, i am going to start up the treadmill and i wanted to know what should my Goal weight starting off should i try to reach.? so i want to lose 40 pounds but i know that i have to start off with a smaller Goal and just work my way to reach my actual Goal Weight at 143. also i know yes i have to stop eating late at night and i have to watch my portion sizes and all that, so i know all of that. but i have been feeling so damn lazy to actually get up and walk on the treadmill , and i know it is due to the lack of exercise, but i want to get back into shape this is horrible. and also my machine is in the garage and it gets a little boring being in there staring at the wall or outside nothing very flattering, so i was thinking of bringing it into the house and putting it in the den in front of the tv that way i can watch my programs and lose weight as well that way i don't get bored quickly, so if i watch a 30 minute program i can walk 30 minutes. what do you think.?.? also how should i make this a priority as well into my busy life. how often should i walk a week, and how long should i start out, do i walk a certain amount of time the first month or weeks then go up .?.? how should i do this, i never had to workout before but after having my son 2 years ago i gained weight throughout that pregnancy and i just feel lazy and fat and ughhhhhhhhhh uncomfortable that my husband has to see his once size 3 now a size 10 wife look just gross.. sorry i'm just hard on myself because i have always been skinny and well i have 2 kids my 9 year old left me looking fabulous but then my son, well not his fault i ate everything in sight thinking i would go back looking great and instead i feel like a whale. but anyways i just want to look good and feel good for myself, and i want to shock those that see me now and are like WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOUR FIGURE to WOW YOU LOOK GREAT. i know many of you woman can relate. i just want to feel beautiful inside as well as outside again

I would say that a first "realistic" goal would be 10lbs.

So 173 for the MONTH.

I know it seems like a long time but it didn't take you one day to gain 10lbs. It took 9 months to pack on those pounds - so please don't expect your body to lose them so quickly, that is the first and foremost healthy lifestyle killer.

Eat about 6 times a day 3 small meals and 3 snacks. I'm sure you know about this so I won't go into much detail.

Up your protein intake quite a bit (my doctor told me I need to eat about 80+ grams of protein a day)

Women in general are supposed to get about 55 grams of protein a day - that is quite a bit, I never even knew!

Chicken, tuna, and eggs are going to be your new besties... so hopefully you aren't vegan!!

You could also try whey protein shakes (they aren't really THAT tasty but for 25 grams of protein per scoop you can gulp it down)

cut out the sodas and the juices (unless you make the juice yourself)

drink at least half your body weight in ounce of water (so you'd need about 92 ounces a day)

it's really not as hard as it sounds, just take big drinks- you could drink 8 ounces in about 30 seconds.

Alright - enough about the food/drinks

Moving the treadmill into the den is a great idea, you need to walk fast though to get your heart rate up. Walking at a speed of about 3.5 for 30 minutes a day would be killer. Not to mention if you did it twice a day (once in the morning when you wake up and once at night before bed). Just start out small and gradually work your way up. You WILL have more energy once you start working out - it's just mustering up the energy (usually mental energy) to START the process of working out.

Just keep telling yourself that you hate the way you look and you want to change it!! You're GONNA change it!!! Right now!!!!!!!

And then DO IT :)

also, holding 5lb weights while you walk would be great, too.

Eventually you could add squats, lunges, plies, leg lifts, push ups and crunches to start toning those muscles.

Ok, I didn't read all of that, but putting the treadmill in front of the tv will most likely help you.
When i play video games I'll sit on my exercise bike and i'll be pedaling while i play, but if in the game i want to run or drive faster, then on the bike, for some odd reason, i start pedaling faster.
And you may lose track of time
(like while watching an hour long movie or something) and end up walking longer than planned, so you'll burn even more calories.Health Question & Answer

Hello, well i cant help you or understand what its like to gain weight after pregnancy, but i do know what its like to gain weight lol, and feel icky having ot look at yourself the way you think other do (fat)

I have a cross trainer and treadmill, and when i ask question in diet and fitness about what i should do to lose weight and whether or not i should watch tv, people always say interval training and music. This is because interval training makes your body expect the unexpected, and you end up losing more calories. The music is because if you try to watch eastender or whatever, you tend to just decrease the speed so you can understand teh story more and concerntrate on the show. Music tends to want you to increase the speed, and it motivates you more.

Try putting your tv on a music channel for 1 hour. Run for a song, then walk for a song and if you are walking when an upbeat songs comes on, run to the beat (ie if the song is upbeat and jumpy, run as fast as the song's tempo) Do this every day, 6 days a week, you should see results.

also, if you can be bothered, you could just walk at a high speed for 30 mins. The more exercise you get, the better!
