Dumbbells question here please!?!

Question: Dumbbells question here please!.?
Hi, i started working out a few days ago with dumbbells i have been told to use either 3 or 5 pounds ones.. but i dont have them. My dad in the other hand he has dumbbells the ones where you can take out the disks and add or take them... so one of those disks says 5lbs in it can i just use the disk instead of purchasing dumbbells.? i mean working out with the disk as dumbbell will it work since im using them mostly to tone arms but im not sure cause of the way i have to hold them in my hand since they're pretty big... so thanks

If you can manage to grip them, using the plates should be just fine. In fact, you may build a slightly stronger grip this way too, which will add tone to your forearms as a bonus.

also note that the bar itself for many adjustable dumbbells is 3-5 pounds with the collars (the thing that keeps the plates from falling off) on them.

Try it and see what happens.Health Question & Answer

It does not really matter what you work out with. Important is that the exertion, the stress goes to the muscles you want to work, So, when you use your dad's disks concentrate to feel which muscles are worked. if you see and feel the exercise in your biceps or tricepts then you achieve your goal. You must put your mind into the respective muscle to make it exert and listen to your body whether you get the feed back from your muscle. You can buiild muscle even by using food cans, a hammer, a bucket full of water. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

yes, just do alot of reps with a 30 secound break in between each setHealth Question & Answer
