Question: What foods are good on a diet.?
Hi i have started healthy eating and going to the gym. Im over weight and have always eaten alot so being on a diet is hard. Im trying to cut out fat i know the obvious foods to stay away from.What foods are good for you other than fruit and veg. Proteins are filling. Lean meats are good (Chicken, Turkey).
I'm guessing you know what is good and bad foods.
Don't eat fried foods, chocolate, crisps, sweets or drink alcohol. Eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 larger ones. Use the palm of your hand as a guide with meats and carbs etc. Eat wholemeal pastas and bread instead of white. Don't eat carbs after 6pm. I have lost quite a lot of weight over the last year and a half by following a well known (UK) slimming plan. It is based on the fact you should eat foods that that have few calories relative to its bulk. Things that fill you up and keep you feeling full for longer without being high in energy. Such as lean meat, fish, eggs, very low fat dairy products like cottage cheese and yogurts, pasta, rice, potatoes, fruit and vegetables.

You should still eat things like cheese and nuts as they are good for you, but only a very small amount as they are high in energy. 1 oz of cheese or a small handful of nuts should be the most you eat in one day if you are trying to lose weight. You know that fruit and veg is good for you so try bulking out your meals with them. If you want to snack have a peice of fruit. It shouldn't get boring as there are so many varieties out there.
I would avoid processed foods completely as they contain all sorts of hidden calories and try to avoid anything that is high in fat. whilst dried fruit is good for you, you are more likely to eat too much so stick to fresh fruit and eat it in its natural state i.e. raw.

Make lots of casseroles and soups using lots of vegetables and maybe a little lean meat. You don't have to buy lots of 'diet' food, which can get expensive, just make good homecooked meals using healthy fresh ingredients. If you haven't got one invest in a slow cooker. One good diet food would be any type of fish, unless it is fried. You should cut out anything that is fried in your diet. 0 or 1 percent yogurt is also very good for diet and very filling.Health Question & Answer
