Why does your foot (or any bodypart) 'fall asleep'?!

Question: Why does your foot (or any bodypart) 'fall asleep'.?
Well actually
I think I know the answer to that question
the stopping of blood flow right.?
But why, when it wakes up, does it leave a very uncomfortable feeling, it doesn't really hurt, it just feels bad.? I don't know how to explain... xD

I've been wondering for some time now
and never really looked into it.Health Question & Answer

I think it has more to do with compressing the nerves. When you conpress the nerves, it cuts off the pathway from the brian to the limb. Have you ever slept on your arm is a way that when you wake up your arm feel like dead weight.? Then when the nerves "wake" you get the tingling sensation from the nerves regaining sensation.

This happens because of a lowered amount of blood flow through that part of the body. i.e. If you sit on your foot for a long time, and your butt is pressing down on the ankle, the veins are tightened, and less blood gets through. It then starts to feel tingly and all, because of the lack of blood. The reason it hurts when it regains feeling (I think), is because of the rapid blood flow going through the veins back into the foot. You can test this with a hose. Take off the nozzle, and turn it on. Then hold down on a part of the hose. Hold it for about five seconds, and then release. You will notice that, for a short time, the water shoots out faster than normal. Hope this helped. =)Health Question & Answer

Your foot/arm/body part falls asleep because of no blood circulation. The "tingly" feeling you feel is blood flow being restored.Health Question & Answer

I'm no doctor, but im gonna say you're right about lack of blood circulation. then the prickly feeling when ever you move it is all the blood coming back. Health Question & Answer
