Should I trust the scales? ?!

Question: Should I trust the scales.? .?
I did a 30 minute cardio workout before breakfast this morning, and before I started I weighed myself. During the workout I drank probably half a litre of water (around 17 ounces). After the workout I weighed myself again out of curiosity, and I had gained a kilogram! (1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds). Could I really have gained a whole kilogram just from drinking half a litre of water.? Or are my scales broken.? Health Question & Answer

Generally scales are some what of a guide but they don't take into account such things as water and muscle mass. Muscles weighs more than fat but takes up less space as it were. So you can actually gain weight because you added muscle, but get smaller. Such things as the way your cloths fit are generally a better gage especially if weight training is part of your fitness routine. It is recommended that you do not weigh yourself often during the day because of the fluctuations that such things as retaining water can do. In fact Weight loss programs that work such as weight watchers recommend you weigh yourself only once a week. The other thing weighing yourself to often can do because there are fluctuations, is affect how you feel about yourself and your progress. So it is possible.Health Question & Answer

Your true body weight will be the one you take first thing in the morning, after you have gone to the bathroom.

The weight difference is from the water you drank during your workout. Do not worry about it, it is just water. It will be gone by next morning.

If you find you are holding water, I would cut back on your sodium intake if it is a little high.

Hope that helps!Health Question & Answer

No! If you insist on weighing yourself everyday, do it in the morning when you get up before your workout. Then weigh yourself the next morning at the same time. But scales can be discouraging. Weigh yourself once a week rather than daily.Health Question & Answer
