When it comes to weight loss, a calorie is a calorie. For example, if you burn 2200 calories a day and eat 2200 calories worth of Snickers bars, you won't gain or lose weight. If you eat 2200 calories worth of fruit, you still won't gain or lose weight.

I'm not advocating either of those options, since you'd be overall unhealthy and decifient in a lot of vitamins and minerals, but as far as weight gain and loss goes, a calorie is a calorie.

Edited to add: With carbs, though, you will notice more fluctuations with your weight because depending on the type and amount of carbs you're eating, water will be held onto and lost. That's why a lot of people think they lose a lot of weight when they stop eating carbs, because the scale will be lower due to losing a lot of water, however, they're not losing real weight and the fact is that when they start eating carbs again, the water will just come back...Health Question & Answer
