Dieting: I just started to workout along with my new diet regimen...?!

Question: Dieting: I just started to workout along with my new diet regimen....?
...and I count my calories. I am a female and weigh 195. My goal weight is 145, but I am getting there slowly and want to do things the right way. HOWEVER, I just started working out and I am really proud that I burn just under 400 calories a day...but I eat them back! Why does it make me so hungry.? It's generally at nighttime as well..not even in the late hours..but about 3 hours before I have to go to bed. HELP!Health Question & Answer

After you work out, try having a protein based snack like plain non fat yogurt and fruit. The protein will help your muscles repair themselves and you build lean muscle, which will in turn increase your metabolism. I eat plain yogurt and fruit every morning, and I don't get hungry until lunch time. You definitely burn more than 400 calories per day. It's estimated that most adult women need 2000 calories per day to maintain their weight, which means that most women burn an average of 2000 calories per day. In order to lose weight, you need to consume less calories than you burn. It's usually recommended that you eat 1400 to 1500 calories per day (which would be 3500 calories less than you need to maintain your weight every week), which would result in about a 1 pound per week weight loss. I ate about that much when I lost my weight, and generally I lost 2 pounds per week. Some weeks I lost more, others I lost much less.

Now for the snack thing, I usually like a snack in the evening too. Just be sure it's plant based, fruit or veggies in the evening. POssibly a slice of whole grain toast (if you've only had 3 other servings of breads/grains that day) might keep you full until bedtime.
