I do weight training at home and I rely solely on mags and books for guidance. Some of them are conflicting though, especially about this topic. I'm really confused. Pls advise.Health Question & Answer

Hey Ben,
I wouldn't say I am a body builder but I have been weightlifting for the past two years. Lower reps with maximum weight is a great way to build more muscle mass. The ideal number of reps is 6 - 8, and do 4 - 5 sets of the exercise. It's also very important to work up to your maximum weight slowly. Don't jump up to say, 65lb dumbbell press instantly. Instead start with 45lb, 50lb, 55lb, then 65lb. This ensures that the muscles you worked so hard to build does not tear, causing you to wait weeks for it to heal.

To build more mass, you must also around 150g of protein, depending on your current weight. Good luck on bulking up!Health Question & Answer
