Question: How much walking is needed in a week to keep fit.?
Okay, so I found out that I'm a bit fat. First I decided to eat less (i.e. starving myself till I get thin enough) because I don't have much time to do exercises, but then I quit because I need more energy to grow tall, too, and I don't think it's very healthy, plus I also enjoy eating (but I know my limits).

So now I want to do some form of exercise, and I have chosen walking (jogging) because I actually enjoy doing it.

What I want to know is, how many hours (approximately) do you need to walk to 1) get rid of all the extra fat and 2) keep fit.? And is it necessary to do this everyday.? I do walk everyday, to go to school and such, but I'm talking about some extra walking here.

Walking is a good exercise. It's fun, it's easy, you can take friends or pets....

Anyway, the question is HOW MUCH TIME: Ideally, you need to walk at least 20 minutes 3-4 times a week. More is better, obviously. If life were perfect, you could do 30-45 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week. Whenever you have a chance, get a walk in. Minutes can add up, so if you walk five or ten minutes five times a day, it's worth the time you would have spent doing it in order.

work your way up gradually.
start with four days a week and increase it over a month up to 6 days.
start with walking 20 mins a day and increase to 30 mins over that same month. after you have done this, add 2 minutes of running into the thirty minutes of walking. every time you walk, add an extra minute of running in and one minute less of walking.
this is an easy way to increase fitness without to much strain on your body.
remember to only add the running in after you have started walking for 30 minutes, 6 days a week.

Walking is the best exercise anyone can do " That's what we were designed to do"
You need to walk fast " enough to be slightly breathless" for it to be beneficial to your health.
By increasing the walk speed, you will slowly raise your metabolism, and will not suffer from joint problems later in life.
If you start moderately, then increase the speed you should notice results within 2/3 weeks.
