Will my bodybuilding lifestyle hurt my top speed?!
Question: Will my bodybuilding lifestyle hurt my top speed.?
Okay so I'm a sophomore in high school, amateur bodybuilder and sprinter on the track team, so I care a lot about my top speed.
last year I did pretty decent, second fastest of the freshman this year looking to be the fastest. Right after the spring track season ended, I started getting into bodybuilding and working out.
to give you an idea of how I changed, I'm pretty much the same height, but by the end of the track season I was 120 pounds with around 11% body fat. Now, I'm 136 pounds with 4.8% body fat.
People are saying this may hurt my top speed, what do you think.?Health Question & Answer

Weightlifting probably will not interfere with your running. Increasing your leg strength may actually increase your running speed (it did for me but I don't run much at all anymore). Go for total body routines that are not too long in length and don't waste too much time on bodyweight specific items like bicep curls and tricep kickbacks. Lat pulldowns, push ups, presses, and pulls all work those muscles.
I have increased flexibility in my shoulders, hips, and increased control of range of motion from lifting. I don't think lifting hurts flexibility and has been shown to increase flexibility as well. (Alwyn Cosgrove, Lou Schuller)

It's not certain. More weight = less speed, but since you have more muscle = higher speed. It all depends on how hard you can push them.Health Question & Answer
wieghtlifting often tightens you up...less flexibility makes you slower. so yes in a way, but not running speed workouts takes away your speed, not weightsHealth Question & Answer
