There are a zillion diet rules you could follow and I have tried many of them, but I lost 40 pounds by just following one rule: I set a calorie limit for the day and stuck to it or right below it. So, if I needed to eat 1,500 calories a day to lose weight, I never ate more, I sometimes ate a little less, and I always tracked the calories so I could be as exact about it as possible.
Once you track calories for awhile, you get used to what certain foods are and it is really not that big of deal. The nice thing is, most days I ate healthy foods, but there were many days where I included a few cookies or a package of m&ms in the day's calorie count. It makes it easy to stick with because you aren't denying yourself anything....if you want it, you have it, but you must count the calories.

A great site for calorie counts on grocery foods and restaurant foods is www.calorieking.com.Health Question & Answer
