There are so many different ideas on this one, that it's hard to answer this question!

Some researchers say (and you see this on the news every so often, especially around Valentine's day) that the theobromine contained in chocolate mimics the sensation, in the brain, of being in love. I have read a study recently, in which the effect of theobromine on the human central nervous system was compared to the effect of the THC in marijuana. In other words, chocolate makes you feel really good, so you want more of it. The point of the study I was reading, was to determine whether or not this effect actually makes chocolate physically addictive or not. While there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that this is the case, I think the jury may still be out on whether or not chocolate can actually cause a physical, and not just psychological, habit. Of course, a huge part of addiction is psychological.Health Question & Answer

Its genetic. People are either biologically programmed to like sweets, or salty foods.Health Question & Answer
