TMJ pain does anyone suffer from this...?!
Question: TMJ pain does anyone suffer from this....?
Anyone have it and what do you do about it.? I have shooting ear pain, sore, tight jaw muscles, a quiet clicking sound when I open my mouth. I have massaged it until it's bruised feeling but that's not taking away all the pain. Ibuprofen is being taken regularly to bring down any inflammation. My doctor treated me with 2 different antibiotics a few weeks ago "thinking" it was ear infection because of the shooting ear pains. Now, after searching on the web, I'm pretty sure it's TMJ. It's going on 3 weeks of pain now..can't take much more.
Once you have TMJ, do you always have it.? Can the pain ever go away by use of a chiropractor, massage therapist etc.?
Thanks in advance. Health Question & Answer

Answers:
DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT intentionally click your jaw.
i have the exact same problem and i would click my jaw all the time and i ended up dislocating it and getting a muscle spasm, it took 4 months to get normal function back and even now, i cant open my mouth very wide like i used to. take a cold compress and put it on there for about fifteen minutes then immediately after put a hot compress on and switch back and forth for a little while, it gets the blood circulating through the jaw muscle to loosen it up, try not to do a lot of excessive chewing and avoid gum, gum is TMJ's worst enemy.Health Question & Answer

Apply warm compresses on the area of pain. Home therapy includes mandible (lower jaw) movements, such as opening and closing the jaw from side to side. Try this after a warm compress is applied for 20 minutes. The lower jaw movements should be repeated three to five times a day, five minutes continuously each time, for about two to four weeks.
