Question: Of those who have plates and pins in your limbs after a severe break, did you have them taken out later.?
I was in a bad accident last year and had 5 plates, a rod and 51 pins placed in my legs and my left wrist. I have talked to some who had them removed later in life, but my doctor said I will always have mine. I was wondering what others have experienced and what their doctor's told them...Health Question & Answer

I've had wires and a plate removed from my arm. The wires were only in for 6 weeks while a fusion held, the plate should have been permanent but was removed after 6 months as it did not help the problem.Health Question & Answer
my mom was in a terrible accident and had a rod in her left left, a plate with screws in her ankle and a pin in her hand.
the pin was removed right away, it was only there to keep the bone in place for healing. the plate and screws were removed after about a year because they didn't end up helping. the positioning was preventing healing. but she still didn't heal so they took the rod out about a year after they removed the screws. my mom kept them all too. it's really trippy to see the rod that was once in her leg!
