Is it possible that my rib is cracked?!
Question: Is it possible that my rib is cracked.?
I fell off of a horse a couple weeks ago... not a terrible fall. I banged my head, and was pretty sore for a few days though. But ever since, I've had a sharp pain in my side (upper left side, a few inches below my armpit) and it's sometimes hard to draw a breath especially when I'm laying down. All other times, I can breathe easy, but it still hurts. It also hurts to cough, sneeze, bend over/backwards, anything like that.
Is it possible that my rib is broken, or at least cracked.? If so, what can I do for this.? I'd like to avoid going to the doctor if possible... Need more details.? Just ask.Health Question & Answer

It is possible - and there is another possibility. You could have popped ribs out of place. What you are describing is quite familiar to me...
A few years ago while at a Bon Jovi concert, my friend and I decided it would be a good idea to dance on the folding chairs that were our seats.
Not so good.
When I fell, several people around me grabbed my arms and kept me (thankfully) from hitting the floor. However, for the next two weeks I had a hard time taking a deep breath, could never lay comfortably and sleep due to pain in my back, felt sharp pains when I would try to twist, etc. I finally went in to the chiropractor. He checked me and informed me I had three ribs popped out of place. It was a quick easy fix, and I felt 100% better!
I asked him how could I have popped three ribs out of place. He then asked me if I had recently fallen from a height, or had been lifting heavy items from my back. "Well, I did fall off a chair at a Bon Jovi concert," I told him.
He nearly fell off his own chair laughing.
I will always have my own personal souvenir of that concert. About two or three times a year my ribs pop out and require the same intervention. Evidently once it happens, it can easily happen again.
I agree it is a good idea to definitely see a doctor of some type to help determine the source of your own pain. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Yes, it's possible. The doctor won't do anything for you if you do go. I've had several cracked ribs, and the doctor won't even x-ray them any more because he says it's a waste of my money, since there is no treatement for a cracked rib...other than time.Health Question & Answer
If its been a couple weeks, and you've been OK, you didn't crack it, probably bruised something. Health Question & Answer
You're in pain when you sleep right.? The fact that you still have bad pain a few weeks after the fall does suggest a possible rib fracture. Rather check this out and have a chest x-ray. Or you could end up piercing a lung. Unfortunately the only treatment for a cracked rib (if you have it) is strong pain killers and lots of patience. My brother cracked a rib (without knowing it) when he fell off his bike in a bike race. He rode for 4 days in agony before he finally went to the doctor. They said it can take up to 6 weeks to get better!
