Is the EMLA cream still supposed to be on the patch after two hours?!
Question: Is the EMLA cream still supposed to be on the patch after two hours.?
I bought a EMLA numbing patch in order to numb the skin that would be in contact with a needle. After two hours, I removed the patch and felt the skin. I pinched the skin and found the EMLA patch had no effect, and the cream was still on the patch. I followed all the instructions in the instruction manual on the EMLA numbing patch, but the patch did not seem to work. I'm just wondering, is the EMLA cream still supposed to be on the patch after two hours.?

I used ELMA for yeaaaars for accessing my port a cath. I would only leave it on for 10 minutes, tops, and take the cream off. it's normal that your skin won't absorb the cream, its not supposed to... but dont leave it on for two hours. put it on 10 mins or so before you're going to be poking the skin with a needle :]Health Question & Answer
