I know this is a long answer, but an important one. I took it for three years or a llittle longer and felt that I was well enough to go off of it, so I weaned my ownself off with no problems at all.It takes awhile to do it correctly so you won't have a rebound. It worked wonders for me. In fact that was the only anti depressant that truly helped me, and I tried several other kind before . It takes a good couple weeks to get to feeling better, but its worth sticking with it.Your body will adjust to it within two to six weeks. But you should gradually start to feel a difference in calmness in a couple weeks if not sooner. It is not habit forming but you're not suppose to just stop suddenly taking it. Never stop taking any anti depressant suddenly.Thats where people go wrong and really have trouble then with their nerves and depression. Some people have to stay on it forever. It's according to your problem and reason for having to take it. Your Doctor is your best friend in this situation. He knows what you need and how long. He will help you with all of your questions about it and teach you how to go off of it when you are ready and well. It will not change your personality per se,but it will make a big difference in how well you will feel.also it works wonders for anxiety, and gives you a better outlook on life.In other words, it's a great med for depression, anxiety, nerves, sleeplesness, fearfulness, and overall feeling worth living again.Good luck and get well..Health Question & Answer

Zoloft takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get the full benefit. It's not addicting but it's not recommended to stop cold turkey because of withdrawal effects. I cannot be the one to decide how long you will need to take the medication. It shouldn't change your personality. I hope this information helps and best of luck with Zoloft.Health Question & Answer

I used to be on a very high dosage and I felt nothing. Everyone's different though. You won't be addicted and you won't need it for the rest of your life.Health Question & Answer

well many people who begin zoloft experience the "placebo effect". this is when after a couple of days on the medication you begin to feel better. however, medications like that often take weeks to get into your system and begin working. and no. you will not get addicted. in fact, you'll probably be off it in about a year. most people don't stay on zoloft for an immensely long period of time. most people get better within a short period of time when on medication for depression, which is good. it means it works.
and no. it will not change your personality. it will probably just make you a happier person, like the way you were before the depression hit.
if you feel no positive effects within about a months time it could not be the right medication for you, and in that case your doctor will probably prescribe you a different medication.

hope you begin feeling better soon! :DHealth Question & Answer
