Choose less refined high sugar foods and drinks and more wholegrain cereals, pulses, fruit and vegetables
Include protein at each meal
Eat a wide variety of foods
Include oily fish (omega 3 fatty acids) in your diet
Maintain a healthy weight
Maintain adequate fluid intake
If you drink alcohol keep within recommended limits
Exercise regularly

I have never known any food that cures depression. However, their are studies about vitamin D helping with seasonal depression (winter blues). But it is not a cure. If you have a very poor diet, consume alcohol or drugs on a regular basis, you may reach a point of physically not feeling well. People who become ill or just haven't felt well for a long time are more prone to depression. I believe that good nutrition is instrumental in maintaining good health which in turn may lesson the risks of becoming depressed. But I would not embrace that as an absolute in regards to prevention of depression or see it as a cure. Health Question & Answer
