Do people with mental illness get upset when others say things like "he drives me crazy!"?!
Question: Do people with mental illness get upset when others say things like "he drives me crazy!".?
Answers:
I dont think most people with mental illness would get upset with that phrase, but some might. The word crazy depending on how its used might trigger some emotion, so just watch how you use it.Health Question & Answer
It depends. Each person is an individual...I have a dear friend who has a mental illness who gets offended when people joke and say, "you're crazy!" (She functions perfectly well in the work force and socially, just has bipolar disorder) but if people were to say something like "you drive me crazy!" she wouldn't care.
But..everyone is different. Someone with schizophrenia may be more offended than someone with a less invasive mental illness.Health Question & Answer

I guess if they are over-sensitive. After all, it is an illness and it is hard enough to have it and then have someone mock it - using it as a play on words (even as a joke)
