Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat. My best friend died in my arms from a shot to the head, then I too was messed up pretty bad and I am an incomplete quadriplegic as a result. Then, when I came home there were people yelling "Baby killer" and spitting on me at the airport as I rolled past in my wheelchair. It was a real bad time for me that I have relived over and over in my dreams and daily thoughts for the past thirty years. Only in recent years, after a lot of years of medical help, have I been able to talk about it.
People with PTSD have persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their ordeal and feel emotionally numb, especially with people they were once close to. They may experience sleep problems, feel detached or numb, or be easily startled.
