Why am I not able to go to sleep?!

Question: Why am I not able to go to sleep.?
Ok, for the past 3 months EVERY night I have been going to bed at 2AM, no matter what my schedule was, work, school etc. Now for the past week, I have been going to bed at 4AM. I don't feel tired at all though, I feel awake and alive as ever. I know I am stressed about a lot though. I just lost one of my jobs, I am being evicted, unsteady pay, family adversity, ALOT of uncertainty in my life right now, I have mild PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) diagnosed by my psychologist due to past events. My BF of a year is the only one keeping me sane thankfully. But I need to get back on my feet again to the happy young woman I know I am. Could stress be the cause for my mind just not being able to shut off at night.? I am taking a natural supplement from Lassens called Melatonin, it helps but I've been immune to it so to speak the past week. I've told my friends about my poor sleeping habits lately but they say I don't even look tired, that they can't even tell. I know it's affecting me and my behavior. I am more moody, I need help, what could be the cause and what can I do about it.?Health Question & Answer

You have alot going on so yes your mind is going constantly not allowing you to sleep for a long period of time. Your adrenaline is on the go which is why you don't feel tired. YOU definitley need to allow your mind to relax so you can sleep . I would focus on the positive of the good in your life. Work on a new resume so you can get back into the swing of things. With Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome I can see why you don't sleep . However since you are so stressed about so many things is why you are not allowing your mind and body to relax. I would start with relaxing things as well. Lavender scent products which calm a person down, maybe spritz on the pillow at night . Lavender has been known to put people in la la land so they can sleep . Try to have a positive attitude , 1. Look for a better job 2. Look for a better apartment or one you can afford. 3. Look for a sincere person who will help you through this ( but you already have one )
You have already come to realize you will happier once back on your feet, that is good , that is a start. I wish you the best ! Remember remain and bring positive into your life . You can do this !Health Question & Answer

Definetly stress related. Try having a nice hot bath with your favourite scents surrounding you. (At about 11pm).
If you don't like to use oils in the bath try scented candles.
Do breathing exercises and relax in the bath for a good 20 mins or until the water starts to cool.
Go to bed straight after your bath. I garauntee you will sleep like a baby.Health Question & Answer

Brain chemistry can be a bugger! There is Melatonin....at the health section of your wal-mart.....it may help.......most people suffer from this, from time to time. Being overly concerned, can make it worse. If you must, get Ambien...it worksHealth Question & Answer

with all that going on yeah. I would say stress is the culprit. Try to stay away from caffeine for at least 5 hours before you want to sleep. I just take tylenol pm or benedryl when I cant sleep. They both knock me right out...Health Question & Answer

Looks like you do have lot of stress. Your mind is too preoccupied to be able to sleep. Too much to worry, it sounds like. It is easier said then done, but what I used to do is, I used to make my room extremely cold, when I couldn't fall asleep , then I get under thick blanket, and put 1 hour of thunderstorm Cd with setting of realistic volume on my stereo. Then I relax and put my mind into fantasy. I usually think of storm, out in forest, with small tent, inside dry and warm. This use to relax me to be able to sleep.Health Question & Answer

You sound bipolar and like you're going through a manic phase. You need to talk to your doctor about it. Mood stabilizers will not only help with your insomnia, but they will also help with depression and some symptoms of PTSD.

The stress is definitely playing a role in your insomnia. Try doing some relaxation exercises before bedtime. Make sure you turn off all lamps and lights an hour before you go to bed. The darkness will help reset your biological clock. The safest OTC sleep medication is Benadryl. As long as it won't interfere with any other medications you are taking (and it really shouldn't), you can take one or two before bedtime to help you sleep. But definitely see a doctor since you're not getting anywhere near enough sleep and you're running on pure adrenalin. You really don't want to experience the crash that comes from weeks of poor or little sleep. (I've crashed three times since I've been an adult. Each time, it took over 2 weeks of bedrest before I could function again.)

Let me say this, i know what your going through. I used to be victim to poor sleep habits myself. Thing was though i would go to bed late like you said, 2 or 4 in the morning, and id just wake right back up, early as a rooster. There could be lots of reasons why you don't get much sleep, but i only remember some...For 1 it could be your just way too excited about tomorrow. That can keep your brain distracted. 2. If your anything like me, you got to pee alot. I tend to wake up whenever i have to use the bathroom. Note: Don't drink or eat anything 3 hours before bedtime. Lastly but not least, don't do exercises around bedtime. Any form of exercise is pumping blood through your heart. Your going to feel antsy, vibrant, and alert. If you really want to go to bed, you want to first change your sleeping habits like go to bed earlier and read a book at least 30 minutes before bed. No t.v., no computer, just read a book, don't even think about calling your bf...No phone!Health Question & Answer
