It's different for everyone. But a great number of soldiers are returning with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. While there is really no telling what you'll see and how you'll take it, make sure you talk to your family. All of you need to realize that, when you do come back, you might be hardened, upset, depressed, etc, so they'll have to understand that and give you time. Maybe talk to someone who has been at war already and seek their experience and advice, or talk to a therapist.

No matter how you return, you'll need a strong support base of friends, family, and perhaps a psychologist.Health Question & Answer

A buddy of mine's been out there a few times. He actually got to the point where he was more comfortable there than here. Like he got used to always being on the alert and felt more in control of things.

Then again, I'm not sure that's a good thing.Health Question & Answer

If you prepare yourself well for Culture Shock...that their Culture is so very different than the Culture you're leaving...and you're accepting of the cultural differences...then your mental state will be good when you return. Good Luck.Health Question & Answer
