Does a 3 year meth user quit by themselves?!

Question: Does a 3 year meth user quit by themselves.?
I have been dating my boyfriend now for about 4 years i found out a year ago that the problems that he was having such as lying, not keeping a job, staying up for days, then sleeping for days was due to his addiction to meth. i threatened to leave him if he did not quit! for a short while i really believed that he did quit, because he started gaining weight, hanging around me more, and could have a conversation without being distracted. but i still feel that from time to time he does it. he clams that he has quit, but sometimes he acts strange if its brought up in conversation, and he still has not found a job! and for some reason if i try and Talk to him about meth he defends it like theres nothing wrong with using. He honestly trys to make me think that after 3 years of using that he quit by himself! and another issue is that occasionally he hangs out with his friends that still do it. but he tells me that hes not tempted anymore and that he can say no if hes around it! if anyone can give me some helpful advice i would really appreciate it!Health Question & Answer

It is not unheard of or impossible to quit drugs/alcohol without treatment. HOWEVER, quitting on your own is extremely more difficult, especially to such a highly addictive drug like meth. Drug addiction is a lifelong struggle and even for people who seek substance abuse treatment the relapse rate is something ridiculously high like 9 out of 10 people end up relapsing and using again. One of the things they talk about in substance abuse treatment centers is how important it is to make a lifestyle change which includes completely removing yourself from your friends that use and any situations, people, or environments that are reminiscent of using the drugs. Chances are he is still using if he is still hanging out with friends who do. If you feel like the situation is not changing it is time to require he get some help. Even if he starts slow in an outpatient center.Hope this helps. Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

Meth users don't quit until they don't have a choice........for the most part. Threatening to leave him won't do a thing, except make it worse. You have to be there for him or betray him. It's that simple. If you found out that you had cancer would you want him to be there for you during chemo.? True, he chose to take that first hit but after that he was in the passenger seat. Listen to someone who is being driven around as I speak.Health Question & Answer

I doubt a meth addict could just quit. They would probably go thru major withdrawal which would be awful. So it's not really fair of you to just expect him to quit on his own. He needs medical help like rehab. He needs to be seen by a Dr. so can quit and take something to help with the major withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal makes someone very, very sick and in extreme cases kill the person.Health Question & Answer

a 30 year meth user could quit by themselves... just depends on their will power and determinationHealth Question & Answer

Its all about will power. If he still hangs out with the friends then yes he still does it you cant just stop something like a drug even weed you have to remove your self from that environment Even then just the smell can switch your mind and say just one last time. he can quit by himself tho just has to want to. and by what you say, he hasn't quit just hiding it a lil better. he's no good try to find your self a man that is willing to do anything for you even quit something that will not only drag him down but you too. had a friend that smoked weed all the time, his love of his life hated it then she just gave up after years of telling him it was stupid and started smoking it with him and my cousin then about 3 months later he gets in a car wreck and kills her, my cousin and another friend. all because he wouldn't give it up. i was smoking with them till my girlfriend at the time found out about 4 months b4 the wreck i gave it up for her now thanks to her i was able to make her my wifeHealth Question & Answer
