How long has this gone on.?
It sounds like you have Insomnia. The most common causes of insomnia are depression, anxiety, or something related to another medical condition (ie RLS). You would know if any of those apply.
The over the counter remedies do not work. Forget trying milk, valerian root, alcohol, or Camile. For most insomniacs any kind of PM products and benedryl won't work either.
The first step is to follow what is called 'sleep hygene'.
Some of these include:
- You are only allowed to be in your bed for two things: to sleep, or have sex.
- You must get up at the same time every day. The maximum you're allowed to sleep in on weekends is 2 hours past regular wake up time.
- Avoid Caffeine in the afternoon.
- Exercise at least 45 min a day.
- Establish a bed-time routine. Having these steps will help your body and mind unwind, and know that it's bed time.
- You cannot stay in your bed for more than 15 minutes. Whether it's falling asleep or waking up in the morning.
- If you cannot fall asleep, get out of bed. You can stay in your room, whatever you prefer, but sit and do something that isn't stimulation until you get sleepy.
I know having kids in the house, especially young ones, makes it hard to follow any kind of shedule. Just do your best. :)
Try those for at least 2-3 weeks. If there is no improvement you will need to go talk to your doctor. He/She can evaluate you to see if it is a mood disorder, or another medical problem. You weren't really specific about what is going on ( like if you wake up, or don't feel rested after a full night's sleep). You could have a serious sleep disorder, sleep apnea, which can be fatal. Of course diagnosing someone over the internet is nearly impossible, but more information could be helpful in leading us in the right direction.

Celestial tea has some good teas. There is one called sleepy time. also, try a lavender or a chamomile tea. They tend to help calm the body and mind.
I know it's a little strange, but Turkey has a natural sleep aid in it. That's why at Thanksgiving, we all get so tired after we eat.
Hope these suggestions help. I have also heard of Ambien as being good, but like all drugs I would ask a pharmacy/pharmacist to be sure it would be OK for you.Health Question & Answer
