Drinking bottled water that has been sitting in the car or in your house causes what?!

Question: Drinking bottled water that has been sitting in the car or in your house causes what.?
I'm just gonna clarify my question because I was too vague. If I drink half a bottle of water and leave the rest for a few days in the car or sitting in my house and drink the rest is that going to make me sick or cause cancer.? Sheesh.. I can't do anything without having someone tell me I am killing myself! I do this all the time, I find opened bottles of water sitting around my house that I left a few days or a little more ago and I drink them. Health Question & Answer

it's not going to cause cancer on the spot, so relax. what happens is the plastic from the bottle can just 'melt' sort of into the water. the chemicals then are in the water and if you drink it ;o. if you drink enough it can cause cancer, just don't drink a ton of it. that's why plastic bottles such as 'poland spring' or 'dasani' aren't recommended because they are plastic.

i recommend getting one of those hard plastic re-usable bottles they work great and are completely safe. they are also environmental safe.

don't drink bottles that have been sitting in the sun for a while. or sitting around! and you won't get cancer on the spot, so relax :)Health Question & Answer

Our parents are living to a ripe old age and they had lead in the paint on their walls, asbestos insulation and god knows what other myriad of chemicals surrounding them and in the products they used. I wouldn't worry so much about it. Yes plastic does release VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) but think about how long the water was sitting in that plastic bottle between when it was manufactured and when you bought it. Probably weeks if not months. The only possible concern I can think of drinking water that's been opened and sitting out for a few days is contamination by bacteria. I'm pretty certain the chances of that are remote.Health Question & Answer

The only thing I can think of is that when you drink from the bottle, some of your saliva enters into the water. Then your saliva and possibly the bacteria in your saliva will remain in the water. I have no idea if this contaminates your water after a few days though, but personally, I always throw out any left over bottled water and only drink fresh water. It is always better to be safe whenever you eat or drink ANYTHING that is going into your body. Health Question & Answer

As long as it was covered there's no problem drinking it, as long as it's new water. If it was uncovered it's still safe, but a bug could have gotten in it.

What they're talking about now is water that is in PLASTIC containers.
You shouldn't drink a bottle of water in a plastic bottle, and then refill it.
It's safe to use a GLASS bottle over and over. :)Health Question & Answer

It may not kill you instantly but you will die much earlier especially if it is a plastic bottle. It has been proven that deadly carcinogens are leeched from plastic bottles into any liquid that it holds. The longer it sits the more opportunity for those toxins to leech into the water (or whatever liquid it may hold). PS... take heed to Pretzel............ just below me as that is precisely true. I went through water treatment and purification training.Health Question & Answer

I heard that the chemicals in the bottle release somthing when it gets overheated like in a car. I also head on the news that you shouldn't refreeze bottle water more than 3 times for the same reason. I head that bottle water causes cancer and is bad for pollution. But if you think about it everything causes cancer, breathing can even cause cancer.Health Question & Answer

Yes. The plastic has more time to absorb into the water, and contains a chemical known as CSP that has a very high risk of producing terminal cancer, that is why the bottling companies choose to put water in them.
Its perfectly normal to use deadly plastics for bottling consumed goods. lol

If you are worried about plastic, drink VOSS Artisian water.
It comes in cool glass cylinder containers.Health Question & Answer

It could. Sitting in a warm environment gives bacteria a chance to grow like crazy. also, the high temperatures in the care are likely to release the cancer causing chemicals in your plastic bottle left over from production.Health Question & Answer

Ditch bottled water. It isn't in style anymore. Get a reverse osmosis household water filter installed on your sink and then drink your water out of a glass or a stainless steel water bottle.Health Question & Answer

It doesn't cause cancer, but it's not good 'cause that's a perfect situation for bacteria to grow in there. I don't think it'd kill you, but it could make you sick. It's not good.Health Question & Answer
