So I was at Safeway looking at tampons and I saw these things, I can't remember what they were called but they're like these little cup like things that you put up there-has anyone tried them and what can you tell me about them.?Health Question & Answer

They are called menstrual cups. It's a money saver because you don't have to buy pads or tampons.
It's like a tampon, basically... it goes up your va-jay-jay and collects the fluid coming out... then after about 4 hours or so, you take it out, and then empty out the fluid into the toilet.
Sometimes people wear pads or thick liners with them because if you're flowing really heavily and forget to empty it, then it can leak.
When you take it out, you're going to have to clean it out with either a sink or a piece of toilet paper. If it can't be cleaned with water, then use tissue or something and then the next time you take it out YOU MUST USE WATER!!! To clean them after your menstrual cycle has finished, you can wash them with water and then boil them to sterilize them.
You can go swimming and take baths with them just like tampons.Health Question & Answer

I personally haven't tried them, but many of my friends use them regularly. They are safer than a tampon, or even a pad, because your body isn't absorbing any of the chemicals as in the traditional products. I've heard they work well at collecting everything, and are comfortable. Give it a shot! :)Health Question & Answer
Wow, your post encouraged me to look these up. Here's a link that describes them: http://www.mooncupsandkeepers.com/. I had no idea. It seems like it would be more ecologically friendly since the landfills and sewers wouldn't be filling with more disposable feminine hygiene products. I plan to try them soon!Health Question & Answer
