Answers:
Go to another doctor and get a second opinion. If your knee is swelling up like that it is a warning sign from your body that all is not well. Until you see a second doctor, put ice on it.
Good luck...........

Sounds like an identical injury that I had, ten years ago now. An ornament fell on my knee, the inside of it. I was relaxing with my left leg up on the arm of a chair when my dog knocked this solid ornament down from the top of my stereo. It knocked me out cold and broke the ornament in half. But I hate hospitals, and it was 1 am when happened and I could walk on it so left unchecked. For six weeks I tolerated the slow progressive pain before going to doctors. I had the same tests as you, and I too was told I had torn a ligament in my knee and it would take several months to heal.
2 years later the pain had disabled me to my home, I couldn't walk without days in agony. I could do the walking, but it affected me afterwards so I stopped going out. I learned to drive a automatic as it was my left leg (clutch) and it enabled me some independance but the doctors had claimed it would heal within months and it may have if I had kept off the leg more, but you know yourself it's hard to take life easy when got a busy lifestyle.
The pain got so bad once, I couldn't walk at all, cried and fell really ill with the pain alone. I had mentally prepared myself a plan to amputate my own leg under a train, I saw no end to it. I knew I could do if was drunk enough, had to better than living as I was, but I was too ill even to do that.
It actually took over five years, and a lot of lifestyle changes to heal from a torn ligament, or so I was told.
Since, I have heard that Brian Clove (X football manager) had a similar injury caused by playing football. He too had the same tests and got told a similar tale. He went to Germany and there they discovered a tiny chip of bone floating in the cartilage (sp) of the knee-unseen in previous tests.
My doctor told me my whole knee cap had been moved too, but I don't have many difficulties with it now, but it does occasionally dog me.
I hope you heal quickly.
God Bless You!
