Why are some people so scared of people with epilepsy?!

Question:
Answers:
As it's been mentioned, people that are uneducated on epilepsy are basically just afraid of it.

My sister has JME and watching a full clonic/tonic seizure can be a scary experiance.

What my sis does is educate the people around her on what it is and what to do. (Main point: Never, EVER shove something into someone's mouth that is having a seizure.)

Talk to your friends. They may be a bit distant at first, but once they realize it's really nothing that can harm them and that they can HELP you, they will be fine with it.

Best of luck and never let it get you down!

Because of the unknown.

I was at the mall once and saw a woman writhing around on the ground. I knew what it was, so I just sat with her and made sure she didn't hit her head or anything. People just stared. I just waited for her to finish. She eventually did, and got up and she was fine.

I was glad to help, but just sorry people around her were so rude. I think they were just scared/freaked out. I'm a mom and have seen it all, so for some reason it didn't freak me out.

Best wishes.
A lot of people are afraid of anyone who's different than themselves or things that they're unfamiliar with.
a feeling of helplessness because you have to keep the individual safe until the epileptic episode ceases.
Ignorance.
Especially if they have had no or limited contact with epilepsy before (fear of the unknown, fear of that which is different).
Because there is nothing you can do to control it (once a seizure begins) and it is so unpredictable.

My grandfather on my mom's side and my grandmother on my dad's side both had epilepsy and I still am really bothered when I see someone have a seizure. Aside from the fact that everyone gawks and stares, it is an uncomfortable situation. It bothered me when I was a young child and it still bothers me today.

I have Eplilepsy myself, and the most public place I have had a seizure was @ skewl. Luckily it was in like 4th grade and the other kids forgot. But I think most ppl rn't relle scared, but they don't wanna help or don't know how, or know someone else will. I try not to tell ppl I have Epilepsy unless it's absolutely necessary or I'm going some where that may trigger my seizures.
