Foods that will lower and higher your cholesterol?!

Question: I am on a drug (accutane) and they monitor your Triglycerides every month..This drug really helps me and I need to make sure my Triglyceride levels stay low..are there any foods that I should eat to bring it down/keep it low? and what foods should I STAY AWAY from
Answers:
Ok, I am glad that you want to lower your cholesterol and that is a great idea and so far everyone has given very good advice, anything high in monounsaturated fat (almonds, avocado..) and fruits.
However, you said that you need to get your triglycerides tested every month. Triglycerides are not the same thing as cholesterol. Triglycerides make up some of your cholesterol, but they are their own thing. The main thing that raises triglycerides is alcohol, so stay away from that.
You could consider taking omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid rich foods like fish and fish oils, but be careful cause in excess these will increase your LDL (bad cholesterol) but at the same time decrease your triglycerides so its a double edged sword. You will basically have to go on a low fat diet (with the fat you do take in coming from mono and polyunsaturated fats) and stay away from saturated fat, trans fat, and alcohol.
Good luck

Cholesteral comes only from eating animal products (meats, dairy products). Red meat has more, fish has less. Fresh fruits and vegetables do not have any harmful cholesteral.

Don't listen to those drug company commercials about inheriting it. They are trying to keep you ignorant and dependent on their drugs by saying there's nothing you can do about it. The same goes for the medical industry.

If you avoid or lessen the animal products that you eat, you probably won't even need that medication. The medication is to control it so that you can continue to eat that stuff, but it's not a cure. And high cholesteral is not a disease, it's a condition that results from a certain type of diet.

If your doctor tells you that he doesn't know why your cholesteral is a problem, or what is causing it, then get another doctor.
